the cheese party

how does that sounds?

- no, I think there will be not cheese dancing but probably the sheep will do it!
With the approach of the weekend and the craft fair - with local products, such as cheese, honey, bread, and so many other tasty treasures - I'm getting this 'nervoso miúdinho' with so many things to organize and to create a better view for my artworks.
There will be also the local producers and artisans, doing their exciting activities (at least for me they are) around the cheese making process as shorning the wool and show cooking.

Testing the artworks placed on the giant wooden hoop that I found in Renee's etsy shop. Love at 1st sight for this size, someday I'll be screenprinting and embroidering bigger hoops.

the details - must be everything clear and organized

...

Dear Mountain:
This year you have been a shelter.
A hard winter on heavy rains, climbing rocks and herbs to reach the roof, a difficult summer making deals with the sun to not dry out all the vegetables, however the most precious year & air, where a move is a breath of life and beauty, knowledge and essence.
I feel richer than ever, finding my way in this meaning of life.
If you laugh I laugh,
If you spin I would spin,
If you cry I'll cry.
thank you...

native trees & the new portuguese law

trees to restore the fields

With the new law recently approved by the portuguese -corrupt- government, having these native trees makes me look like a criminal, having to report and request authorization. On the other hand, to plant exotic and in some cases invasive trees do not require any authorization. It's the absolute opposite of what they should be doing, it's profit over people again and again. In a few years, we will become more consumers than producers, which serves the purposes of the ruling corporations, since the reduced biodiversity of such exotic landscapes only leads to the road of depletion. Consumers of what? Everything, except for eucalyptus paper pulp. We'll eat paper like goats when they have nothing more. Depletion of the natural resources is the ultimate goal of all the economic lobbies that pull the strings of our puppet decision makers, because their hunger has no limits. It's business as usual, rain forests in Brazil or mediterranean forests, it doesn't matter, the few beneficiaries will continue the destruction, with the help of the locals. Just as in Africa, the poorest will see it has a way to put food on the table, acting and thinking in short terms like the ones in power, but unlike the fortunate ones, they have a good explanation, they're dying. Well, there are people dying of many needs, some are dying to have the latest I-poop, others are dying for a meal.
This is too serious and I'm sad. If I need to be an 'ecological terrorist' 'Let it Be' - let's bomb with native seeds!

still around

Almost a year but I'm still around with the needles and ink.
A lot to write, to show. Many changes.
Living surrounded by trees and the natural things, almost without signs of civilization, enjoying it.

spaces and gardens

ok, and there's a new year... full of mystery and the uncertainty of what will happen next... I ended the year with much hope for an unfair dead country but the word 'leave' was surrounding my thoughts. Still is. Looking for a bright space...

 illustrated gardens

illustrated garden 1

A new collection of small graphic illustrations born in the transition of the year:
- Bright Space, celebrating the end of 2011, it's a collection of 4 illustrations
- Illustrated Garden, celebrating the beginning of 2012, it's a collection of 8 illustrations
It's the rebirth of the Space project, with opaque colors and some neon ink, constructed with round shapes & lines, a fresh atmosphere rock by rock.

The New Artisans

Olivier Dupon from Dossier37 just came out with The New Artisans book, edited by Thames & Hudson!
It's the most delightful book with brilliant artists and magnificent artwork's in several kinds of mediums, techniques and categories.
It's really the most wonderful book of design combined with old traditions and arts I've seen. Gathering artists from all over the world, filled with colorful photos with plenty of action and energy that allows us to feel the pieces and to imagine all the alchemy and the magic corner that is an artist's space.
A book of non pretentious - honest artists who get their hands dirty in what they do with love!

Portugal includes 3 artists that I already knew and love. I have some Serrote journals and I'm a huge fan of Vera João Espinha for ages and her nature inspired brooches & accessories. The other artist it's me:

 Fric de Mentol

Amongst some more known artists that I adore: Bailey Doesn't Bark, Ninainvorm  Ann Wood  and depeapa

naked autumn II

The Tiny Silhouette Tree collection

Remember the naked trees from the last year? I've added some more to the collection, this time in a smaller format, to collect and/or share them.
They are a limited edition, screen printed with gocco in autumnal colors.

Root Tree I

Root Tree II

Root Tree III

Root Tree is a collection of 4 different mixed media hanging hoops.
They are screen printed on linen and hand stitched with cotton threads to give a more 3D touch.
It's like dressing my elegant naked trees that I'll keep drawing and adding to the collection, both screen prints on paper and mixed media hanging pieces.
These trees are beautiful to collect and mix with my other hoop artworks. I keep hanging them in the wall to take pics to the group, and I get a happy colorful lyric wall that makes me smile.

It's Friday, have a happy day!

happy somersaulting

Prehensile Beard pack

Knit Knit Jornalito

Knit Knit is the recent jornalito (handmade journal). It has soft pink pages and a first silver one with a vintage look label on.
The Prehensile boy/beard has now a special and fun spot! I've created a special pack with journal and customized pencil on a hand screenprinted cotton bag with the same design.
The pencils are very special and elegant, at least for me, they are customized in the only Portuguese fabric of pencils - Viarco - which is producing pencils since 1936.

The good news of the week: I received my exemplar of The New Artisans, a fantastic delightful book where my work is featured and I'll write and post about it very soon.

In the meantime have a wonderful weekend, I'll be on a colorful place during the weekend participating on a craft fair .

cahier mood

It's the same as - I'm on a roll making handmade journals named Jornalito (Small Journal).
I've been posting here some pictures from the process, however I promise that I'll do a better report next time because it's an interesting printing folding cutting process and I'm fascinated.
Made with recycled kraft cardboard cover, screen printed with gocco, stitched bound and also with a bookmark included.
The collection is growing:
